Piggott, an ACE community and the county seat of Clay County, is a growing
community. The excellent quality of life enjoyed by the people who live,
work, and play here is a result of a concentrated effort and a good working
relationship among the city, county, and
Chamber of Commerce. The City boasts low utility rates because of a
community owned power company. The local hospital is also City owned and
operated. In August of 1999, a new sales tax, designated for a new fire
station and ladder truck, was passed. Community commitment is evident as
there are 25 active civic groups in Piggott. There are thirty-three
churches in the City.
A new community center has recently been completed in Piggott. The center, which seats 500, offers an auditorium/gym with acoustics sound system and stage area, two racquet ball courts, two arts and crafts rooms, one large meeting room and two small meeting rooms, as well as kitchen facilities. The City maintains two public parks with playgrounds and picnic areas, hiking and nature trails; a swimming pool; two lighted tennis courts and five lighted baseball/softball fields. Heritage Park, home of the "Fall Festival" recently added a new amphitheater. Piggott is located eleven miles from picturesque Chalk Bluff in northeast Arkansas and is home to the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center owned and operated by Arkansas State University of Jonesboro. Piggott has recently been designated as the northern base for the new Crowley’s Ridge Parkway. Hemingway Photo Courtesy of John F. Kennedy Library |
